Sigma Phi Alpha
Excellence in Journalism Award

ADHA, in conjunction with Kenvue, is pleased to announce the Sigma Phi Alpha Excellence in Journalism Award is open for applications. This award is given to three students pursuing degrees at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels to recognize excellence in writing a manuscript suitable for publication in the Journal of Dental Hygiene (JDH).

Undergraduate manuscript submissions are typically based on a literature review, but research manuscripts are welcome. Graduate and doctoral manuscript submissions are typically based on thesis research or a doctoral dissertation, but literature reviews can be considered.

AWARD PRIZE PACKAGE

Three awards are given for the Sigma Phi Alpha Award:
  • One winner at the Bachelor's level
  • One winner at the Master's level
  • One winner at the Doctoral level
The award winners will receive:
  • A Cash Prize
  • An engraved award
  • Social media recognition
  • Recognition during ADHA24 Annual Conference 
Award winners’ manuscript submissions are eligible to be considered for publication in the Journal of Dental Hygiene. If a winner elects to pursue publication, the manuscript may be submitted to the journal for a full, standard JDH review process.

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

  • Applicant’s degree level when research was completed
  • Name of school/institution 
  • Primary author information 
  • Uploaded manuscript & supporting photo (if applicable) 


SUBMISSION EVALUATION PROCESS

  • All manuscript submissions are reviewed by a panel of JDH Reviewers who are researchers, authors and contributors selected to participate in this process.
  • Manuscripts on either original research or literature reviews are evaluated based on a specific rubric for this award. Access the Manuscript Evaluation Rubric here.
