Graduate Student Clinician’s Research Program

In partnership with Dentsply Sirona, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) proudly presents the ADHA Graduate Student Clinician’s Research Program. This program creates a wonderful opportunity for graduate dental hygiene students to participate in and conduct research and allows ONE STUDENT from each graduate dental hygiene program to receive an expense-paid trip to participate in ADHA’s Annual Conference.
This program allows student clinicians an opportunity to compete for awards and recognition. The ADHA Graduate Student Clinician’s Research Program consists of a podium PowerPoint presentation in the format required by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association. The research or clinical findings are presented as a podium presentation that includes a hypothesis, methods and materials, results, discussion, and a conclusion.
The purpose of the ADHA Graduate Student Clinician’s Research Program is to promote dental hygiene research by supporting one graduate dental hygiene student from each graduate dental hygiene program offering a Master of Science degree in Dental Hygiene and related disciplines (as identified by the ADHA) to present his/her research at ADHA’s Annual Conference in July.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Each graduate dental hygiene program will nominate one outstanding graduate student project, based on criteria determined by the program, to represent them at the ADHA’s Annual Conference.
- Qualifying research would include clinical, basic science, or educational research, which supports the areas of research identified in the ADHA National Dental Hygiene Research Agenda and contributes to the dental hygiene knowledge base.
- Two or more students may develop the research for the podium PowerPoint presentation, but only one (1) student from each program is eligible to present for judging and will receive financial support.
- The podium presentation will be judged, and awards will be presented at ADHA’s Annual Conference. All participants will be honored at a reception at ADHA’s Annual Conference.
- The first-place winning student from the ADHA competition will be awarded an expense paid trip to the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) Annual Meeting and will be invited to participate in the AADOCR/Dentsply Sirona Student Clinician’s Award Program in a non-competitive way.
INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE
An invitation to participate in the research program is sent to the Program Director of each graduate dental hygiene program. The program will identify one student to participate in the ADHA Graduate Student Clinician’s Research Program. ADHA does not designate a specific procedure for the selection of the student clinician to represent their dental hygiene program. It is acknowledged that each school or university has its separate set of rules and guidelines in the selection of the student. However, it must be understood that the student who participates in the research program must adhere to the regulations established by ADHA.
The Program Director or designee will assist the student in properly fulfilling the requirements of the program. It is critical that the advisor ensures that the student podium presentation is in compliance with the regulations established by the ADHA. They must also ensure that the student makes initial contact with the ADHA and completes and submits the registration form, the abstract, and all other requested information by the due dates. The students should present their research in a standard scientific PowerPoint presentation, in the format required by the ADHA. All participants in the Graduate Dental Hygiene Research Program will be recognized at an event determined by ADHA.
