A study has shown that roughly 19%-44% of dentists have had a patient experience a medical emergency. Dentists and their staff must be trained and prepared to administer medications and supportive care to mitigate these emergencies. However, a study has shown that most dentists and their staff do not feel confident to handle medical emergencies nor have an adequate understanding of the medications in the emergency medical kit to manage these medical emergencies. This course will encompass the recognition of symptoms and management of medical emergencies experienced in dental offices, along with a review of the treatment algorithms and utilization of medications within the emergency medical kit of the dental office.
